With hundreds of activities occurring in various parts of the Serralves foundation and with hundreds of Portuguese and foreign artists from around the world, Serralves em Festa is Portugal’s biggest contemporary cultural event and one of the largest in Europe. every year the event receives tens of thousands of visitors of all ages, from Portugal and abroad.
Em 2017 Serralves em Festa has chosen the theme "Breaking Walls" and has extended the event’s duration to 50 hours, enabling more people to take part and expanding its open and inclusive remit.
One of the novelties of the 14th edition is the involvement of local authorities from around Portugal in the programming of Serralves in Festa.
This is another way of stimulating the partnerships that Serralves has established with dozens of municipal councils, a key aspect of the Foundation’s mission. In this context, the programme includes artistic projects from Coimbra, Faro, Guarda, Guimarães, Matosinhos, Ponta Delgada, Santa Maria da Feira, São João da Madeira, Torres Vedras and Viana do Castelo.
Serralves em Festa’s programme includes proposals that illustrate interaction between the visual arts and the performing arts, presented in close and integrated liaison with the activities regularly developed in the Museum and Serralves Park. The areas of Music, Dance, Performance, Contemporary Circus, Theater, Cinema and Photography are represented. The 2017 edition highlights a substantial increase in programming for children and families, scheduled throughout the weekend.
