A relic of the explosion of an electric transformer in Puerto Rico - responsible for the 2016 blackout, is reimagined as a tuning device. The production of a vocal-acoustic event excavates, in the form of music, the flows, accumulations, excesses and eventual collapses of the electricity grid. Fragments of ceramic electrical insulators and transformer coils are grouped together in a kind of monstrous power station, an assemblage that becomes the locus of a vocal performance. Working with David Lang, the artists have conceived a sound matrix that unfolds throughout the exhibition and encompasses human and mechanical sources.
