Created by the acclaimed sound inventor, Jan St Werner, one half of the band, Mouse on Mars, this sound installation offers an auditory experience of spatial depth through distance. The top of the staircase reflects noises and voices from the ground floor, which then return to the base, creating new sounds along the way - artefacts, echoes, resonances and distortions. The staircase of Serralves Villa’s chapel thereby becomes an instrument that creates, filters and colours sound. As they listen to the installation, visitors are invited to explore the surrounding environment as a reality that is always permeable to change and active interpretation.
