DOURO, FAINA FLUVIAL PT/1931

Oliveira's debut film, Douro, Faina Fluvial portrays the riverside area of Porto and all the activity taking place there on a daily basis: circulation, loading and unloading of boats, the river, the people, the D. Luís Bridge and the surrounding neighbourhoods. It is considered to be one of the best examples of Portuguese avant-garde cinema from the late 1920s and early 1930s. 

THE PAINTER AND THE CITY EN/1956 wanders through the streets of Porto and the banks of the Douro river, following the work of the painter António Cruz. This is the first colour film entirely produced and directed in Portugal after Oliveira completed a training period in 1955 in the AGFA laboratories in Germany, where he studied colour film techniques for the cinema.
