Carla Filipe (Vila Nova da Barquinha, Portugal, 1973) is a multidisciplinary artist, whose oeuvre critically explores the relationship between art objects, popular culture and activism.

Anchored in an experimental archive of contemporaneity, her creative process results from the appropriation of artefacts and documents that she uses to construct her own form of social portrait and, simultaneously, a self-portrait.

Without prejudice and with great freedom, Carla Filipe creates a unique platform for creation and analysis of the political, economic, social and cultural transformations of the past and present, embracing a thought process freed from any geographical borders.

Pursuing an anthropological approach, Carla Filipe observes, collects, interviews and documents the traces of individual and collective narratives, and then questions, in an idiosyncratic manner, conventional discursivities about the recent past and present day, addressing issues such as notions of territory, work, property, memory, identity or representation.
